About
Founded in 2005 by award-winning producer/director Zara Balfour, Picture on the Wall Productions stands out as more than just a production company. As passionate storytellers and innovators, we are committed to driving change through powerful narratives. Our work spans documentary, drama, and branded content, touching audiences worldwide with stories that create sustainable, real-world impact.
Our journey began with crafting short films, music videos and branded content, and has since evolved into creating award-winning feature documentaries and dramas. Our projects have received numerous accolades, including the BIFA Raindance Discovery Award for our feature documentary, ‘Children of the Snow Land’, which was also shortlisted for a Grierson Award for Best Cinema Documentary, and the Prix UIP at Berlin Film Festival for our drama 'Rotten Apple'.
Our films have been broadcast on international television channels including Arte, NHK, and BBC World, and featured at prestigious film festivals such as London, Sarajevo, Telluride, New York Film Festival, Raindance, and the European Film Awards. Additionally, our works have been acquired by institutions like the BFI for cultural diversity studies, and have been shortlisted for the Screen Awards for Best Cinema Release as well as the One World Media Awards for Impact.
We continue to collaborate with a diverse range of commissioners and clients to produce impactful content for cinema, broadcast, brands, and NGOs. Our expert consulting services support agencies, emerging producers, and include impact producing for documentary films, emphasising our dedication to narratives that make a difference.
