About
Picture on the Wall Productions make compelling stories from around the world. Founded in 2007 by award-winning producer and director Zara Balfour, we started making short films and music videos and now produce documentaries, drama and branded content.
Working with Film London to produce critically acclaimed short films, we were selected for Berlin Film Festival, where we won the the Prix UIP for Best European Short Film, and screened at London Film Festival, European Film Awards, Sarajevo, Telluride and New York Film Festival, among others. Our music video for artist Gravenhurst for Warp Records v Creative Review was selected for Cannes Lions.
We have a passion for documentary and its ability to shine a light on society whilst still entertaining and engaging the audience. Our first feature documentary, Children of the Snow Land, won the BIFA Raindance Discovery Award 2019 and 20 awards at film festivals worldwide, was released in UK cinemas by Dartmouth Films with over 60 screenings, and was broadcast on the television channel Arte as well as numerous other TV channels worldwide.
Our current slate includes docu-series The Recipe for Happiness, and wartime drama Morning Star.
Picture on the Wall Productions works with a diverse range of commissioners and clients to produce content for cinema, broadcast, brands and NGOs. We also consult for agencies and emerging producers and as development and impact producers on feature documentary films.
